| Personal History | Tommie was born in Lubbock, Texas, in 2327 to Jacob and Isabelle. The family had owned and operated the Blue River Ranch for six generations and Tommie, along with his brothers, all learned the tools of the trade from a young age. While there were some technological luxuries that helped things move a bit smoother on the ranch, Jacob was a proponent for doing things "the old way", meaning Tommie and his brothers were up early every morning doing chores that would break other men. Isabelle was a notable veterinarian in the area and despite being extraordinarily busy most of the time, she still enjoyed coming home to help out on the ranch. One thing she always had time for, however, was dinner with the family without fail. While three of his brothers, Nathan, Evan, and Luke, wanted nothing more than to remain on the ranch, Tommie, Ryan, William, and Luke all opted for other careers. Ryan went into civilian construction and excelled quickly. Luke followed in his mother's footsteps and went into veterinary medicine. Tommie and William, however, opted to join Starfleet. William studied hard so he could attend Starfleet Academy, but Tommie felt it was a bit too soft, compared to their life growing up, and opted for enlistment. Ranks going through the enlisted ranks are a bit different than the academy. While in basic training, everyone is an E1 or Crewman Recruit. Upon successful graduation from basic training, they become an E2 or Crewman Apprentice. Tommie's natural talent and high scores throughout basic training allowed him to graduate with the rank of E3, Crewman. Throughout training, he gravitated toward the security and tactical fields but was a very adept pilot and was almost a natural in engineering. Graduating with honors he was allowed to choose his first posting. He chose the USS Saratoga, an older Miranda refit, much to the surprise of his training officers. Tommie had decided that serving aboard a smaller ship would allow him more opportunity to be known to the command staff and to potentially move up through the ranks. His decision worked. Within ten years he had reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer, with a move to the Akira class USS Thunderchild, and continued in the security realm but was also assigned as the senior training officer for all new enlisted security personnel aboard ship. Again, his choice of smaller vessels proved that his notoriety theory was correct. Like the CO of the Saratoga, Tommie had made a name for himself with the CO of the Thunderchild. Not only did he turn out highly trained and efficient enlisted security staff, but the CO at the time ordered that all new officers in the security department report to Chief McDaniel for indoctrination in the Thunderchild's security operations. This allowed him to make even more friends in high places. When transferred to the USS Appalachia in 2365, he was part of the Security Investigations team on the ship, in addition to his standard security duties. In 2373 the Appalachia was a part of the fleet engaged with the Borg in the Battle of Sector 001. The Appalachia endured many casualties and Tommie was temporarily required to fill in as the Chief Security Officer. He filled this role for four months, quite successfully, until Starfleet was able to send replacement crew to the ship. He received a commendation for his actions during the battle and for his services above and beyond his position. This commendation brought his talents to the attention of the Chief of Starfleet's Enlisted Corps. In 2374 Tommie was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer and named Chief of the Boat of the USS Protean where he has served with distinction ever since. Throughout his time in the enlisted ranks, Tommie has become quite close to many officers who, throughout time, rose through the ranks and became key figures throughout Starfleet and the Federation. While he rarely uses these friendships to his advantage, he does make sure to keep on the right side of those men and women just in case he may need something in the future. One handful of relationships that he made throughout his career didn't fare so well. Tommie has been married, and divorced, four times. All were amazing and breathtaking women, but with his regular assignments and inability to keep it in his pants, things just never seemed to work out. |
